BTEC Assignment Help UK for Pass, Merit and Distinction Grades
A Pearson BTEC assignment is not marked like an essay. Your assessor works through a list of criteria, and each one either has the right evidence or it does not. Take Unit 5, Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs, on the BTEC Level 3 National in Health and Social Care. For criterion A.P1 you explain why equality and diversity matter for people with different needs. For A.M1 you analyse the impact of preventing discrimination. For A.D1 you evaluate how well anti-discriminatory practice has worked for specific individuals. Same topic, three very different pieces of writing, and the unit only reaches a Merit when every Pass and Merit criterion is met.
The grades carry real weight. A BTEC National Extended Diploma at D*D*D* is worth 168 UCAS points, the same as three A* grades at A level, while PPP is worth 48. On an HND you work through 240 credits, usually in 15-credit units, and each unit is judged in the same criterion-by-criterion way.
That is why our BTEC assignment help starts with how Pearson actually assesses you. We help you read the brief, plan evidence for each learning aim, check your draft against the command verbs for the grade you want and make the most of a resubmission if your centre offers one. The work you hand in stays yours.
What Our BTEC Assignment Help Covers
BTEC assignment help is academic support for learners on Pearson BTEC qualifications. It covers breaking down your assignment brief, mapping evidence to each Pass, Merit and Distinction criterion, giving feedback on your drafts, checking referencing and presentation, and planning a resubmission when your Lead Internal Verifier authorises one.
Assignment Brief Breakdown
Most lost marks start with a misread brief. We go through yours line by line: the vocational scenario, the tasks, the learning aims each task covers and the exact criteria it targets. You come away with a plain-English plan of what evidence each criterion needs and roughly how much.
Criteria Mapping and Draft Feedback
Send us your draft with the brief and a specialist reads it the way an assessor would. You get a clear note on which criteria look met, which look borderline and why. Feedback is specific, for example "this section describes the Care Act 2014 but A.M1 asks you to analyse its impact".
Evidence Planning for Reports, Presentations and Portfolios
BTEC evidence is not always a written report. We help you plan slides with speaker notes, posters, portfolios and reflective logs so each piece clearly proves the criterion it is meant to cover.
Proofreading, Referencing and Presentation Checks
We check grammar, clarity, headings and your reference list in Harvard or your centre's house style. Assessors read a lot of submissions, so headings that match the criteria make your evidence easier to find and credit.
Resubmission Planning
If you have been given a resubmission, time is short. We help you read the assessor's feedback, work out which criteria still need evidence and add it before your deadline, without rewriting sections that already met the standard.
Pearson BTEC Levels We Support: Firsts, Nationals, HNC and HND
Is an HND Level 5 or Level 7?
A Pearson BTEC HND is a Level 5 qualification on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), and an HNC is Level 4. Pearson describes Higher Nationals as equal to the first and second years of a university degree. Some websites and AI answers call the HND postgraduate level, which is not correct.
| RQF level | BTEC qualification | Size and structure | How it is assessed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Level 1 and 2 | BTEC Firsts and BTEC Tech Awards | Award to Diploma sizes | Internal assignments, plus external assessment on some qualifications |
| Level 3 | BTEC Nationals, including the newer BTEC Nationals (AAQ) | Certificate up to Extended Diploma, which is the size of three A levels | Internal assignments plus external exams or set tasks |
| Level 4 | BTEC Higher National Certificate (HNC) | 120 credits, usually eight 15-credit units, 1,200 hours of total qualification time | Internal assignments set by your college or university |
| Level 5 | BTEC Higher National Diploma (HND) | 240 credits: the HNC plus 120 credits at Level 5, 2,400 hours in total | Internal assignments with more independent research |
| Level 6 and 7 | A small number of Pearson BTEC professional qualifications | Varies by qualification | Send us your qualification title and we will confirm whether we can support it |
Most learners we hear from are on a BTEC Level 3 National. It sits at the same level as A levels, and if you are weighing it up against A levels or T Levels, our guide to the Level 3 qualification explains how the options compare. At this level we focus on internally assessed units, where your own tutors mark your work and the marking is checked through internal verification.
Higher Nationals ask for more independent work. Each 15-credit unit carries 150 hours of learning, split into 60 guided hours and 90 hours of your own study. The Business Higher Nationals, for example, offer pathways including Accounting and Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing and Law, and the current 2021 specification is due for review in August 2028. Unit-level support for these programmes is covered in more depth on our HND Assignment Help page.
How BTEC Grading Works: Pass, Merit, Distinction and Distinction*
Every BTEC unit is graded against published criteria. You achieve a Pass when all Pass criteria are met, a Merit when all Pass and Merit criteria are met, and a Distinction when all Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria are met. Unit grades then combine into your overall qualification grade, where Distinction* is the highest.
In current BTEC Nationals, criteria are labelled by learning aim. A.P1 is the first Pass criterion for Learning Aim A, A.M1 the first Merit and A.D1 the first Distinction. Some Distinction criteria draw on two learning aims at once, so you may see a combined code such as BC.D2. Pearson tells assessors not to average criteria into a "best fit" grade, so one strong section cannot make up for a missing criterion.
Your assessor's decisions are checked by an Internal Verifier at your centre, and a Pearson Standards Verifier samples the centre's marking. That is why evidence needs to be easy to trace back to each criterion.
| BTEC National size | Equal in size to | Top grade and UCAS points | Other grades | Lowest pass |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Extended Diploma | Three A levels | D*D*D* = 168 | DDD = 144, MMM = 96 | PPP = 48 |
| Diploma | Two A levels | D*D* = 112 | DD = 96, MM = 64 | PP = 32 |
| Extended Certificate | One A level | D* = 56 | D = 48, M = 32 | P = 16 |
BTEC Command Verbs and the Grade They Usually Target
| Command verb | What the assessor expects | Usually seen at |
|---|---|---|
| Describe | A clear, detailed account of what something is or how it works | Pass |
| Explain | Reasons for why or how, linking cause and effect | Pass |
| Compare | Similarities and differences set side by side | Pass or Merit |
| Analyse | The topic broken into parts, showing links and impact | Merit |
| Assess | Factors weighed up to decide which matter most | Merit |
| Discuss | Different viewpoints considered with evidence | Merit |
| Evaluate | Strengths and weaknesses judged, ending in a supported conclusion | Distinction |
| Justify | Evidence-based reasons for a decision or recommendation | Distinction |
Treat this as a guide, not a rule. Each unit specification has its own glossary, and verbs move between grades. In Health and Social Care Unit 5, for instance, "assess" appears at Merit level.
Worked Example: Decoding a BTEC Level 3 Health and Social Care Assignment Brief
Here is how we break down a real unit. Unit 5, Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs, is internally assessed, carries 90 guided learning hours and has four learning aims:
- A: principles, values and skills that underpin meeting care and support needs
- B: ethical issues involved in providing care and support
- C: enabling individuals with care and support needs to overcome challenges
- D: the roles of professionals and how they work together
The specification allows up to two summative assignments. Say your centre's brief casts you as a trainee support worker at a day centre and asks for a report on three service users from the Pearson case studies. Task 1 covers Learning Aim A. Your brief's wording will differ, but the criteria come straight from the specification.
| Criterion | Command verb | What it actually asks | Evidence that works |
|---|---|---|---|
| A.P1 | Explain | Why equality and diversity matter for people with different needs | Reasons tied to each named service user, with examples such as person-centred planning |
| A.M1 | Analyse | What changes when discrimination is prevented, and why | Cause and effect for each individual, linked to duties under the Equality Act 2010 |
| A.D1 | Evaluate | How successful anti-discriminatory practice has been for specific people | Strengths and limits for each individual, a clear judgement and an overall conclusion |
Three things stand out once the brief is decoded. The same three people run through all three criteria, so you research them once and build upwards. The Distinction criterion needs a judgement about specific individuals, not a general essay on discrimination. And the unit expects current legislation that applies in England, such as the Care Act 2014 and the Mental Capacity Act 2005, which feature in Learning Aim B.
Every BTEC assignment help session with us begins with this kind of breakdown, whatever your subject or level.
Types of BTEC Assessment Evidence: Reports, Portfolios, Presentations and Observation Records
| Evidence type | Where you often meet it | What makes it strong |
|---|---|---|
| Written report | Business, Health and Social Care, IT | Headings that match criteria, relevant sources, analysis rather than description |
| Presentation with speaker notes | Business, Travel and Tourism, Sport | Notes that carry the analysis, because slides alone rarely prove a Merit |
| Portfolio | Art and Design, Creative Media | Development shown step by step with clear annotation |
| Observation record and witness statement | Sport, Children's Play, Health and Social Care placements | Completed by your assessor or witness and linked to named criteria |
| Logbook or reflective journal | Engineering, Applied Science, placements | Dated entries and honest reflection on what you would change |
| Practical investigation or lab report | Applied Science, Engineering | Method, results tables, and a discussion of accuracy and errors |
| Case study analysis | Health and Social Care, Business, Public Services | Theory applied to the people or organisation in the brief |
Observation records have to come from your assessor or witness, so our role there is helping you prepare for the activity and reflect on it afterwards.
Case studies deserve a special mention because they run through so many BTEC units. The skill being tested is applying theory to the scenario in front of you, and our Case Study Help page explains how that skill works across different subjects.

Learners on travel, tourism and hospitality routes often need real industry examples to reach Merit and Distinction. Hotel operations, events and customer experience topics are covered by our Hospitality Assignment Help team.
How to Write a BTEC Assignment That Meets the Assessment Criteria
Read the brief next to the unit specification.
Highlight every criterion code and the command verb inside it.
Organise evidence by criterion, not by essay format.
Use headings such as "Task 1: A.P1" so your assessor can find each piece of evidence quickly.
Choose sources that fit the vocational context.
Current legislation, industry reports, organisation data and course textbooks all count.
Apply everything to the scenario.
Name the people, business or setting from the brief in every section.
Match the command verb to your target grade.
Explain gives reasons, analyse shows links and impact, evaluate ends in a supported judgement.
Reference and check before you submit.
Use Harvard or your centre's house style, and sign the authenticity declaration honestly.
Before you submit, check that:
- every Pass criterion has its own clearly labelled evidence
- each Merit and Distinction section uses the right command verb
- examples refer to the scenario, not general theory
- every source in the text appears in your reference list
- you could explain any paragraph out loud if your assessor asked
BTEC Resubmission and Retake Rules: What Pearson Actually Allows
Pearson allows one resubmission per assignment, authorised by your Lead Internal Verifier. You must have met the original deadline or an agreed extension, your first attempt must be your own work, and your assessor must believe you can improve without further specific guidance. The deadline is within 15 working days, and all grades stay available.
| Resubmission | Retake | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A chance to improve evidence on the same assignment | A new assignment targeting Pass criteria you have still not met |
| Who authorises it | Your Lead Internal Verifier | Your Lead Internal Verifier, after a resubmission has not reached Pass |
| Grades available | Pass, Merit and Distinction | Pass only |
| Time limit | Within 15 working days, in the same academic year | Set by your centre |
| BTEC Firsts | Available | Not available, because Firsts have fallback Level 1 criteria |
Two details catch learners out. If you miss the original deadline without an approved extension, you lose both the resubmission and the retake. And you do not need to redo the whole assignment, only the criteria your assessor and Lead Internal Verifier have flagged. Your centre's own assessment policy will set out how this works locally, so read it alongside Pearson's rules.
Academic Integrity and JCQ AI Guidance for BTEC Coursework
Can you use ChatGPT for BTEC coursework? Only within your centre's rules. JCQ guidance, updated in April 2025, says all work submitted for assessment must be your own. Using AI without acknowledging it, or letting it replace your own work, counts as malpractice. Even properly referenced AI content earns no credit, because assessors can only reward what you produced.
Pearson's BTEC Centre Guide to Plagiarism was updated in August 2026 and points centres to the JCQ guidance. Sanctions range from a warning to disqualification and being barred from Pearson qualifications for several years. Tutors can also ask you to present your work verbally if they are unsure it is yours.
JCQ publishes real cases. In one, a learner's Unit 1 Exploring Business work for the BTEC Level 3 National Extended Diploma in Business cited both sources and AI tools, yet concerns remained. When the learner declined to explain, the case went to Pearson's Malpractice Committee.
Our specialists do not use generative AI to write feedback, examples or notes for you [confirm with your team]. If you used AI for early research, we help you acknowledge it the way your centre asks.
What We Do and What We Don't Do
| What we do | What we don't do |
|---|---|
| Explain your brief, learning aims and criteria | Produce finished work for you to submit as your own |
| Give criterion-by-criterion feedback on your drafts | Complete exams, set tasks or controlled assessments |
| Share model examples for study, clearly marked as reference material | Sign or advise on your authenticity declaration |
| Check grammar, structure and referencing | Use AI to generate content for you |
| Plan your resubmission from assessor feedback | Promise a specific grade |
| Help you revise for externally assessed units | Contact your centre or assessor on your behalf |
Good BTEC assignment help should leave you able to explain every sentence of your work if your assessor asks. In England, the Skills and Post-16 Education Act 2022 made it an offence to sell contract cheating services to post-16 students, while tutoring and proofreading remain legitimate study support. We work firmly on the right side of that line.
BTEC Assignment Help: Typical Services vs Our Approach
| Area | What many services typically do | What we do |
|---|---|---|
| Grading | Mention Pass, Merit and Distinction in the headline | Map every criterion code and command verb in your brief |
| Levels | List "Level 1 to 7" with loose equivalences | Use RQF-accurate levels, with the HND correctly at Level 5 |
| Resubmissions | Say little, or give the wrong rules | Explain Pearson's actual resubmission and retake rules |
| AI | Show a "100% AI-free" badge | Explain JCQ rules and how to acknowledge any AI use |
| Evidence types | Treat everything as an essay or report | Cover portfolios, presentations, observation records and logbooks |
| Ownership | Deliver a finished paper | Keep you as the author while we coach, review and check |
| External units | Blur internal and external assessment | Offer revision support only for exams and set tasks |
| Qualification changes | Rarely mention them | Track V Levels and funding changes for 2026/27 |
Common Challenges on BTEC Nationals and Higher Nationals
| Challenge | Why it happens | How we help |
|---|---|---|
| Stuck at Pass | Writing describes when the criterion asks for analysis or evaluation | Show where your draft needs to move up a command verb |
| Brief feels vague | Scenario, tasks and criteria are spread across several pages | Turn the brief into a one-page evidence plan |
| Several deadlines at once | Coursework runs through the whole year across many units | Help you plan evidence unit by unit, starting with Pass criteria |
| Theory not applied | General notes copied into the scenario | Link each theory to the people or business in the brief |
| Weak sources | Reliance on generic websites | Point you to legislation, industry reports and course texts |
| Referencing errors | Harvard rules applied inconsistently | Check in-text citations against your reference list |
| Resubmission panic | Feedback is short and the deadline is 15 working days | Translate feedback into a clear list of criteria to fix |

BTEC Updates for 2026/27: V Levels and Funding Changes
Last reviewed: September 2026
- V Levels start in September 2027, first in Digital, Education and Early Years, and Finance and Accounting.
- Funding for large Level 3 BTECs in those subjects ends from autumn 2027. Further subject areas, including business, engineering, construction and sport, follow in 2028, with large health and social care qualifications also in 2028.
- Current BTECs stay approved until their replacements arrive. Pearson says its Level 3 Nationals, Nationals (AAQ), Level 2 Technicals and Firsts remain fully approved until new qualifications are introduced in each subject.
- Pearson is developing V Levels in Accounting and Finance, Digital Systems and Data, and Education, subject to approval.
These changes affect which courses colleges can offer to new starters. If you are already enrolled, ask your centre how the timeline affects your cohort.
